Golden Bush Guest Roaster

Good Morning y’all, happy fall. Feels like we’re just about there. Mayyybe soft launching some of that this weekend. You know what’s happening now though!?! Bar Takeover!!! VIA Golden Bush Coffee out of Miami!

Yep it’s that time! Every few months between seasons as the produce rolls in, we axe the specials and highlight a great roaster on our core menu! It’s a good way for us to work with new beans, and share what we love with all of you. So all those lattes and drips going out the door, are made with Golden Bush Coffee, roasted by Mr. Claudio! At least for another week or so, including a little retail until we’re back to our usual beans.

So What’s on bar???

Espresso - Segues Blend is a double natural Brazil/Ethiopian that tastes like a chocolate orange, super citrusy. THE most citrus forward espresso I’ve ever had, it’s just not a crazy common note. Big fan! Super fun to work with!.

Drip/Cold Brew - Queen Mehbuba is an Ethiopian natural from Uraga (ኡራጋ።) that is a lot smoother than you’d expect. The drip has super strong blueberry cereal smell, but at the same time has this smooth rose water finish on the tongue. It’s verryy drinkable! We love it! On cold brew it’s similarrr just more nutty.

Iced Aeropress (16oz) - El Mango is a coffee soaked at the farm with fresh mangos, orange juice and molasses! Thank you to the producer Rodrigo Sanchez Valencia! We get absolutely straight up tropical candy gusher juice, especially crisp and clear as an iced press! We just totally love it, and have a bunch on retail too <3

Decaf - Unbend is an “EA” processed colombian coffee that’s giving BIG almond cookie, all the frangipane marzipane baked goods you could want. Serving as an espresso / americano.

Wow wow wow! So what’s up with Golden Bush? Head on over to our blog for the full scoop, but in short! Claudio is mainly a farm level green coffee buyer who also happens to be a specialty coffee association teacher and has played a big part in the south florida coffee scene over the last decade. So he’s brought us some great stuff, roasted it really well, and we’re going to have a few sca classes for baristas next week. He’s also jumping on bar next Saturday for a guest spot with a signature drink!

continued post IG —->>>

I first met the owner/roaster Claudio at a coffee fest in NYC! I’d been following along as @soflo_coffee and @floridacoffeeculture hosted a bunch of events to bring the community together in south/central FL! A series of latte art comps all connected, signature drink competitions and more! With illustrations and the whole deal, it looked legit!

Coffee community is obviously something we’re passionate about as well with all our events here and all the time/money we spend sipping at other cafes, but I didn’t find out for another year that Claudio also roasted really good coffee, and spends a lot of time sourcing green coffee in person at the farm level! So he’s got access to a ton of amazing beans, but also does a really good job presenting them. Stuff that you typically only see via black and white or brandywine on your feed, he also has! I’ve even had stuff from farms roasted by him alongside some others and Golden Bush really shines above the rest! No hate.

So that’s all to say, it’s cool to do an event and share some of this coffee! In addition to the takeover, he’ll be on bar Saturday Sept 20th, and 9am-noon he’ll be serving his competition signature drink, a mont blanc. Think fun mango coffee iced with miami mango cold foam.

Also real quick on the SCA class. This is something that when I started competing was out of reach for me! The first guy to offer a class was offering it at over a thousand dollars, which was just totally not something i thought would be possible, ever. So this class at $200 is super low, having a certification like this opens the door for positions in other cities and down the line at larger companies in coffee/food. It’s rare it exists in north Florida, so I hope we can make it happen for some people that are interested! We’re going to shoot for noon - late. with pizza and drinks for those who come out.

Hope to see ya’ there! Or here, for a coffee : )
